Life after death or the afterlife is what everyone wonders about. No one can prove that there is one or not because no one can come back from the dead and tell us, it’s impossible. Closest proof we have to know the afterlife would be near death experiences. The afterlife is probably one of the most philosophical questions that has yet to be answered. When we die, where do we go? There are many theories on where we go after death. For example, common theories would be heaven and hell and being reincarnated as someone else and losing your memory of your past lives. There are bunch of other theories on the afterlife and some were created from movies and TV shows. For example, the tv series “Lost” was about the afterlife and the movie “Matrix” was the simulation afterlife theory. But what really caught me attention was the Plato’s theory and parallel universes theory on the afterlife.
Plato, who we all know is the ancient Greek philosopher, had many things to say about the afterlife. He stated that our world is incomplete and that it is a constant state of flux. He believed that there’s no stability in the material world and believes that it needs a higher spiritual realm that will be more stable and unchanging. Plato believes there is or should be a spiritual realm. For example, there are many beautiful things in the world but soon or later it will loss it’s beauty but beauty itself won’t die. He believes that beauty must be beyond this material world and that it makes all the beautiful things beautiful. According to Plato, the soul is the spiritual part of the human being and it is accustom to the spiritual realm. When someone dies in the material realm, it’s soul goes beyond it and to the spiritual realm, the human body is moral but the soul is immortal before and after death and has always existed. But don’t get confuse with Christianity, it may believe in the same thing but not everything. Christianity believes the soul begins at birth and that it is not immortal. It dies when the body dies then resurrection after a period of time by God. Plato was right when he said that this world is a constant state of flux, it has changed since then and will always change.
Another theory that interested me was parallel universes. We all know about parallel universes, different universes with different us. When I say different us, I mean different personalities, life style, and/or different everything. There could be right now a version of me killing someone as we speak in a parallel universe. There could be a version of yourself living in luxury and fame or another version living in poverty. Do you ever get the feeling that you been to a place but you actually never been there? Well maybe that’s because an alternate version of yourself has already been there. People have said that when you get deju vu that is actually two universes colliding so that’s why you feel like you experienced it before but just in a different universe. The theory of parallel universes started after the discovery of quantum mechanics. For example in the show “Community”, they rolled a dices to see who will get the pizza and it created 6 different universes having the dice land on different numbers (http://community-sitcom.wikia.com/wiki/Remedial_Chaos_Theory). But no can real prove that parallel universes are real unless somehow a higher technology universe finds a way to travel through universes. Another theory on parallel universe is that there are 4 different levels of parallel universes. Level 1 is space is infinite and that if we keep traveling through space we’ll reach an identical Earth. Level 2 parallel universe, the regions of space are continuing to undergo an inflation phase. Level 3 parallel universe is what I was talking about early with the dice. Level 4 is said to be the strangest one because it would follow different mathematical laws of nature than ours. (http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/the-theory-of-parallel-universes.html) How does this have to do with the afterlife you may ask? Well basically I think that when you die, you are put into a different version of yourself in a different universe but not knowing your past self. It’s kind of like reincarnating yourself to another version.
Here’s a video to help better understand parallel universes:
