The Instrumentalists believe fundamentally, that there is no objective truth we can reach. Nothing can be proved true or false and so a black and white answer is unreachable. Since a theory can’t be judged upon its inherent truth, Instrumentalists believe that value of a theory can be judged on how well it explains the world around us. A theory may later be disproved, but if it works, given the evidence we have, it furthers our understanding and provides a foundation for future ideas. It’s impossible to tell if we’re headed in the right direction, so a good building block is the best we can hope for. It might just lead us to the next wrong answer.
Short (concise) and late thanks to myself. Please don’t penalize the rest of my group, they’re quite beauteous people.
